Along the North Coast, the practice of “good fire” has been growing and with it the imperative and opportunity to inform and empower our community. The HCPBA strives to assist our community in taking an active role in improving the safety and ecology of the north coast through good stewardship. Using fire as a tool to achieve this goal can be complex and intimidating, and we identified the need to compile information in an easily accessible format.
The Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Manual serves as a roadmap for this purpose. Designed to help navigate the many facets of planning, permitting and implementing prescribed fire, it can serve as a field handbook as well as an online resource with links to forms and websites necessary for conducting safe and effective burning. We’ll continue to add to and refine this manual into the future. The first version is now freely available for PBA members and the general public in the resources section of our website, linked below. Please take a look!
